FlyLine
Flyline cutting is a high-speed mode in which the laser head moves smoothly and continuously, avoiding sharp turns and stops. The laser beam is precisely turned on and off in sync with the head’s movement to achieve the required cuts.
Activating FlyLine cutting
To activate Flyline cutting, select an LTT (Laser Technology Table) that includes the word FlyLine in it, as shown in the image below. Flux then decides which groups of hole should be handled together as a single FlyLine cut, and computes an optimal tool path to cut all those holes without stopping.
Flux optimizations can result in greatly reducing the traverse times when FlyLine cutting is used. To illustrate this, consider the following part, being cut without FlyLine cutting, using a traditional LTT. You can see that each arc-slot shaped hole in the part is cut separately with a pierce, moves, withdrawal, and movement to the next cut. Note the traverse time of 9.28 seconds.
With FlyLine cutting enabled, the same part is processed very differently. Note how all the arc-slot holes are cut with a single FlyLine cut block (the first one with a cut length of 1319 mm). The light gray lines show the smooth trajectory of the laser nozzle. Most importantly, the traverse time has been reduced drastically to just 1.44 seconds.
FlyLine Capabilities
Flux can process a wide range of hole patterns and shapes using FlyLine cutting. Supported patterns include regular and irregular grids of standard shapes, staged grids, partial grids, and similar configurations.
Each of the groups of holes in the image above is processed as a single FlyLine cut operation.
