Edit the gauging

Edit the gauging

The first bend in every side (or section) needs to be referenced against the back-gauges so the part is positioned accurately before being gripped by the part manipulators. For manual machines, the gauges move into position behind the blank-holders and the operator references the part against them[1].

Edit Gauges

To bring up the gauges panel:

  • Select the first bend of a side. When the gauges are visible in the simulation, click on them.

  • Open the navigator and click on the Gauging cell.

The gauging panel has a few operations and settings:

  • The Auto Place setting is used to compute automatic positions for the gauges. This is done for all the sides when you switch to the panel bending mode. However, after you have manually moved the gauge into a different position, this button is useful to reset back to the default position. Also, Flux computes a set of possible positions for the gauges, and each time you click on this button, it displays the next feasible position for the gauges (eventually wrapping around to the first).

  • The Slack setting is the extra opening between the gauges (this corresponds to the D Z1-Z2 parameter in the centering settings of the machine). This can be used to open up the gauges slightly to make it easier to insert the part.

  • The Left (Z,X) settings specify the positions of the left gauge in Z and X. The Z position is the distance measured from the center-line of the blank, and the X position is relative to the leading edge of the blank. As you adjust these values, the gauge is moved immediately and checks are performed:

    • You will get a gauge not engaged Not Engaged error if the gauge is not touching the part.

    • You will get a gauge colliding with part Gauge Colliding error if the gauge is moved so it collides with the workpiece.

  • The Right (Z,X) settings set the positions of the right gauge in Z and X.

  • The Simulate slider can be used to move through the simulation of this step.

  • The Prev and Next buttons are used to switch to the other sides of the part, and you can then edit the gauging settings for those sides.
