Custom air-gap tables

Custom air-gap tables

The air-gap table for a panel bender maps a particular sheet thickness to the standard air gap used during processing. This is built into each of the various panel benders, but can be overridden by providing a custom air-gap table in the form of a JSON file. This JSON file is called air-gap-tables.json and is placed in C:\ProgramData\Trumpf{APPNAME}\Data\System.

Below is a typical air-gap-tables.json file:

 {
  "version":1  "airGapTables": [
    {
      "machine": "112002,112003", "material": "DC01"
      "values": [
        { "t": 0.75, "gap": 2.5 },
        { "t": 0.95, "gap": 3 },
        { "t": 1.25, "gap": 3.5 },
        { "t": 1.45, "gap": 4.5 },
        { "t": 1.65, "gap": 5.5 },
        { "t": 1.75, "gap": 6 },
        { "t": 2.05, "gap": 6.5 },
        { "t": 2.15, "gap": 7.5 },
        { "t": 2.55, "gap": 8 },
        { "t": 9.99, "gap": 8.5 }
      ]
    },
     {
      "machine": "112003", "material": "*"
      "values": [
        { "t": 0.75, "gap": 2.5 },
        { "t": 0.95, "gap": 3 },
        { "t": 1.25, "gap": 3.5 },
        { "t": 1.45, "gap": 4.5 },
        { "t": 1.65, "gap": 5.5 },
        { "t": 1.75, "gap": 6 },
        { "t": 2.05, "gap": 6.5 },
        { "t": 2.15, "gap": 7.5 },
        { "t": 2.55, "gap": 8 },
        { "t": 9.99, "gap": 8.5 }
      ]
    },
    {
      "machine": "*", "material": "Alluminio"
      "values": [
        { "t": 0.75, "gap": 2.5 },
        { "t": 0.95, "gap": 3 },
        { "t": 1.25, "gap": 3.5 },
        { "t": 1.45, "gap": 4.5 },
        { "t": 1.65, "gap": 5.5 },
        { "t": 1.75, "gap": 6 },
        { "t": 2.05, "gap": 6.5 },
        { "t": 2.15, "gap": 7.5 },
        { "t": 2.55, "gap": 8 },
        { "t": 9.99, "gap": 8.5 }
      ]
    }
  ]
}
  • The file contains a collection of air-gap values. Each table has a machine and material key which act as selectors.

  • These keys are either set to * (asterisk) to indicate a wildcard (matches everything), or they are a comma separated list of machine or material values.

  • In the example above, there are three tables. The first is used for machines 112001 or 112003, only for the material DC01. The second one is used for all materials, for the machine 112003, and the third is used for all machines, for the material Alluminio. If multiple tables might match the part’s machine/material combination, the first matching table is used. So, for the machine 112003, material DC01 the first table is used (even though the second one also matches).

  • Each table consists of a simple array of thickness keys, with the corresponding air-gap values. For example, the first entry above should be interpreted as: if the thickness is less than or equal to 0.75 mm, use a gap of 2.5 mm. The thickness keys must be in ascending order. If none of the tables within this file match the current part’s material and thickness combination, the default air-gap table for the machine will be used.

If you make any changes to the air-gap-tables.json file, you need to restart Flux before these changes will take effect.
If the JSON file is ill-formed, an error will be displayed when you try to process a panel bender part, but Flux will then fall back to using the default air-gap table for the machine, and will continue.
